Ke. Leonard et M. Senchak, PROSPECTIVE PREDICTION OF HUSBAND MARITAL AGGRESSION WITHIN NEWLYWED COUPLES, Journal of abnormal psychology, 105(3), 1996, pp. 369-380
This study prospectively examined a social interactional model of husb
and marital aggression. Young couples were assessed at the time of the
ir ist marriage with respect to marital conflict styles, alcohol consu
mption, hostility gender identity, perceived power inequity, and histo
ry of family violence. Couples were reassessed at their I-year anniver
sary, and information concerning marital aggression was collected. Mos
t of the constructs were prospectively related to husband aggression,
but these relationships were largely mediated through marital conflict
styles and husband alcohol consumption, which in turn were influenced
by husband's hostility, gender identity, and perceived power inequity
.
