A 5-month-old male calf showed neurological signs, including circling,
inco-ordination, depression, blindness and eventual recumbency. On ne
cropsy, a mass measuring 3.5 x 4.5 x 5 cm was found at the base of the
brain, at the level of the pituitary gland. The hypothalamus and opti
c nerves were compressed by the dorsally expanding mass. Non-functiona
l pituitary chromophobe adenoma was diagnosed from histochemical, immu
nohistochemical and electron microscopical findings. (C) 1996 W.B. Sau
