A novel technique has been developed for simultaneous combustion synth
esis and consolidation of intermetallics in a single step from element
al powders. The method has been applied for the synthesis and consolid
ation of MoSi2. A temperature profile of the combusted compact provide
s the temperature-time regime for consolidation. The products were cha
racterized for density, phase formation, and microstructure.
