Ld. Carlos et M. Assuncao, LUMINESCENCE AND DECAY TIMES EU(III) AND ND(III) IN POLYMER ELECTROLYTES, Journal of materials research, 11(8), 1996, pp. 2104-2108
Time-resolved spectroscopy of poly(ethylene) oxide (PEG) and poly(prop
ylene) oxide (PPO) electrolytes containing different concentrations of
EU(3+) and Nd3+ ions is reported. A description of the main luminesce
nce features of the Nd3+ electrolytes is also presented. Lifetimes reg
arding the main transitions of the luminescence spectra (D-5(0) --> F-
7(1,2) and D-4(3/2) --> I-4(11/2) for EU(3+) and Nd3+, respectively) a
re determined and are presented as a function of temperature in the ra
nge of 13 to 310 K. The order of magnitude of the values obtained at r
oom temperature (0.2-0.6 ms and approximate to 0.7 ms for EU(3+) and N
d3+, respectively) is a further indication of the technological potent
ial of these new polymeric materials. For the EU(3+) ion the thermally
activated quenching of the D-5(0) --> F-7(2) luminescence is discusse
d in terms of the observed energy superposition between the D-5(0,1) l
evels and the ligands-to-metal charge-transfer states.
