A REVIEW OF OPEN FRAMEWORK STRUCTURES

Open framework structures are defined, and specific areas such as adso rption, template and structure-directing effects, and rational design in syntheses are discussed. Specific microporous materials such as sil icates, aluminophosphates, metallosilicates, phosphates; other materia ls such as octahedral molecular sieves and octahedral layer materials of manganese oxide; and mesoporous materials such as M41S and MCM-41 a re discussed in light of the void space, porosity, and openness of the ir framework structures. Synthesis and characterization of these mater ials are also covered.
