Thrombosis in dogs is an uncommon complication of disorders such as hy
peradrenocorticism, heart disease, and protein-losing nephropathy. Dia
betes mellitus and hypertension may enhance hypercoagulate states and
predispose dogs to development of thrombosis. In the past, treatment o
f thrombosis has been largely by means of supportive therapy, consisti
ng of administration of anticoagulants and platelet inhibitors. Strept
okinase treatment of thrombosis in 4 dogs was successful with minimal
adverse effects.
