Abstract
The synthesis of the first pretzel-shaped molecules - via catenane pre cursors - is described. Directed integration of sulfonamide units into an in/out-isomeric amide-type catenane allowed double alkylation by s uitable bridging units at the two sulfonamide nitrogens and made there with possible a broad synthetic entry into this new molecular topology .
