Abstract
The enantioselective protection of 1,2-diols using chiral 2,2-bis(halo methyl)dihydropyrans can be achieved in good yields. Deprotection of t he resulting dispiroketal products was achieved by treatment with lith ium 4,4'-di-tert-butylbiphenyl.
