Skin expansion in burn patients can be a useful method for secondary s
kin resurfacing, scar revision or facial remodelling. However, complic
ations and problems occur more often in these patients than in any oth
er. In this paper the incidence of complication in the first and secon
d stages of expansion will be presented. Several rules will then be st
ated and we will clarify the indications for skin expansion in the tre
atment of hypertrophic scars, contractures, and post-burn destructions
.
