Abstract
As for many other industries, iron and steelmaking is able to induce c ontamination of soils and ground water, his pollution may exhibit some risks for the environment; moreover, it may reduce the possibilities of the site re-use after works dismantling. From illustrations of iron and steelmaking activity, we show how a is possible to assess the ris k far environment using a global approach including : historic analysi s of the site, pollutant concentrations measurement, transfer risks of polluting agents to the main vulnerable surroundings such as air, sai l, ground water and, finally, the human presence. This analysis allows to define measures for pollution control or for polluted sites reclam ation.
