Paragangliomas are uncommon neuroendocrine tumors. In the head and nec
k region they are most commonly associated with the carotid body, vagu
s nerve, jugulotympanic paraganglia, and occasionally the superior and
inferior laryngeal paraganglia. Laryngeal paragangliomas and subglott
ic paragangliomas are rare. There have been nine reported cases in the
English literature of subglottic paragangliomas. We present a case of
this unusual lesion and discuss histologic characteristics and surgic
al treatment. (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
