Infections by the nematodes Enterobius, Trichuris, Capillaria, and hoo
kworm are some of the most widespread gastrointestinal infections worl
dwide. This article is designed not only to provide an overview of the
different parasites in terms of epidemiology, clinical manifestation,
and disease but also to highlight particular areas of intensive resea
rch activity that are providing new insights into both the biology of
the host-parasite relationship and possible new approaches to infectio
n management for the future.
