Kn. Lai et al., DERMATOFIBROSARCOMA PROTUBERANS IN A RENAL-TRANSPLANT PATIENT, Australian and New Zealand journal of surgery, 65(12), 1995, pp. 900-902
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is an unusual soft tissue tumour with
a propensity for local recurrence and rarely metastatic spread. Given
its indolent course it may be mistaken for atypical scarring or a kelo
id growth. Early diagnosis and prompt wide local resection of this ent
ity are required in order to prevent a local recurrence. We report a p
atient who developed locally invasive dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans
4 years after a successful renal transplantation. Although other forms
of sarcoma have been reported as a complication of organ transplantat
ion and immunosuppression, this pathology has, so far, not been report
ed in a transplant recipient.
