TRAFFIC DETECTOR DESIGNS FOR ISOLATED INTERSECTIONS

The objective of this article is to describe recommended traffic detec tor designs for use at both rural and urban intersections that are not part of coordinated systems. The basis of the recommendation is the s afe and efficient performance provided by the designs through their ab ility to provide dilemma zone protection, and their operational effici ency as demonstrated using newly available evaluation procedures.
