STUDIES ON P-NITROACETOPHENONE-SENSITIZED LIPID-PEROXIDATION

p-Nitroacetophenone (PNAP)-sensitized lipid peroxidation is studied in egg lecithin solutions and liposomes (lipid:sensitizer = 100:1 and 50 :1, w/w). Lipid peroxidation is studied by measuring malondialdehydes (MDA) using MDA-TBA (2-thiobarbituric acid) absorption assay and fluor escence assay and conjugated dienes by UV absorption assay simultaneou sly in lipid solutions. Membrane damage induced by PNAP-sensitized lip id peroxidation is studied in liposomes using the spin label technique . Mechanistic studies indicate the involvement of singlet oxygen (type II) in the reactions.
