Phosphorus sorption from sea water on synthesized manganese dioxide Mn
O1.95 in the pH range from 5.5 to 8.2 was studied. The phosphorus sorp
tion is described by the equation of the Langmuir isotherm and decreas
es as pH increases. In PH range of 7.5-8.2, the Mn/P weight ratio in t
he solid Mn dioxide is 1000-1900, which agrees with the P content in M
n oxide minerals separated from the hydrothermal ore crusts from the s
eamounts of the Sea of Japan.
