Ovine cysticercosis caused by Cysticercus ovis is a non zoonotic larva
l cestodosis, which is rare in France, but endemic in sheep breeding c
ountries like Australia, New Zealand, or Argentina. Cysticerci of Cyst
icercus ovis are similar to those from Cysticercus cellulosae, which i
s not a specific parasite. Recent observations on infected sheep carca
sses emphasize the need of increased knowledge on Taenia ovis parasiti
c cycle and of improvement of diagnosis methods in both species. Incre
ased sheep meat importation in France suggests a carefull search of th
is parasite and a cysticerci species identification.
