Abstract
The laser Raman microprobe (LRM) is a powerful tool for measuring the strain fields in composite materials at 1 mu m resolution. This techni que is applied here to the determination of the fibre strain distribut ion in SiC fibre/osumilite glass ceramic composites. The effect of exp erimental parameters, such as laser power upon the results is examined . The application of the LRM for thermal residual strains determinatio ns and oxidation characterisation, is also outlined.
