I. Vass et al., ULTRAVIOLET-B RADIATION-INDUCED DAMAGE TO THE FUNCTION AND STRUCTURE OF PHOTOSYSTEM-II, Acta phytopathologica et entomologica Hungarica, 30(1-2), 1995, pp. 47-49
The effects of Ultraviolet-B radiation on the structure and function o
f the PSII complex has been investigated in isolated PSII membrane par
ticles. By combined application of thermoluminescence, chlorophyll flu
orescence and EPR we show that the primary action site of UV-B is the
water-oxidizing complex. Experiments on the UV-B induced degradation o
f the D1 and D2 protein subunits of the PSII reaction centre show that
contrary to earlier suggestions quinones are not needed to sensitize
the protein damage.
