Fission gamma-ray yields from Np-237 low-energy resonances are studied
by using the Dubna IBR-30 pulsed reactor. A multiplate fission chambe
r with 1.5 g of high-purity Np-237 for detecting fission events and a
large 6-section liquid scintillation detector for detecting 3 or more
photons in coincidence with fission fragments are used to measure fiss
ion gamma-ray yields. A significant 1/Gamma(f) dependence is found for
gamma-ray yields in Np-237 resonances. This experimental result can b
e attributed to prefission gamma ray emission-that is, to the occurren
ce of the process (n, gamma f).
