Abstract
The results of sea experiments addressing the nonlinear generation by two sonars of sum frequency signals in silty sediments rich in gas bub bles are reported. These experiments demonstrated the feasibility of m onitoring the gas content in marine sediments by the nonlinear acousti c method. A theoretical model of the observed phenomena is presented.
