Plasmid DNA, native RNA, and DNA fragments were purified from agarose
gels using aerosil A-300 and glass filters GF/F (GF/C). In the presenc
e of guanidine thiocyanate, the latter selectively bind nucleic acids,
while proteins, polysaccharides, salts, and agarose can be washed off
. DNA and RNA preparations thus obtained can be used as substrates dir
ectly: DNA can be digested with restriction endonucleases, ligated, se
quenced, RNA can be used as a template for RT-PCR assay.
