Abstract
Multiresolution analysis of images using pyramid data structures has b ecome as an important tool in many areas of image processing. In this work we introduce a Gaussian pyramid wavelet transform for multiresolu tion analysis of images, We show that with a slight modification of th e original Gaussian pyramid a decomposition algorithm is yielded, whic h has Gaussian pyramid reduce and expand operations with a perfect rec onstruction property, The method can be applied to multiresolution rep resentation of 2D and 3D images and moving 2D objects for, e.g., image coding and compression, progressive image transmission, and interpola tion.
