Deep neck abscesses in children may be common infections, that is, per itonsillar abscess or carotid space abscess. It is important for pedia tricians to understand deep neck abscesses because of the life-threate ning nature of their complications. This article discusses the causes, anatomy, clinical presentation, and complications of deep neck absces s. Diagnostic imaging treatment modalities, both surgical and nonsurgi cal, also are presented.
