Abstract
Congestive heart failure is a major cause of morbidity and mortality a s the population ages. This article reviews the progress made in treat ing the two major causes of heart failure-mechanical and myocardial, N ew approaches to relieving mitral stenosis and guidelines for the trea tment of congestive heart failure are reviewed. Appropriate assessment and management leads to major improvement in prognosis.
