Ma. Rauf et al., SOLVENT EFFECTS ON SI-CL STRETCHING VIBRATIONS OF TRIMETHYLCHLOROSILANE METHYLTRICHLOROSILANE AND DIPHENYLDICHLOROSILANE, Journal of the Chemical Society of Pakistan, 18(2), 1996, pp. 105-109
IR technique has been used to study the solute-solvent interaction of
trimethylchlorosilane, methyltrichlorosilane and diphenyldichlorosilan
e in a number of solvents. The relative shifts in frequency, Delta v/v
, in different solvents have been correlated with refractive indices a
nd dielectric constants of solvents. Generally, SI-CI stretching vibra
tional frequency shifts towards lower wave numbers than those observed
in the gas phase. Buckingham's modification of Bauer Magat formula wa
s used to interpret the solute-solvent interactions. The calibration l
ines between Delta v/v vs epsilon-1/2 epsilon+1 Were drawn. Results ob
tained from these calibration lines are also discussed in terms of sol
ute-solvent interaction.
