Ml. Sierra et E. Rodenas, DISCUSSION OF THE COMPLEX KINETIC RESULTS OBTAINED IN THE OXIDATION OF POLY(PROPYLENE GLYCOL)(MW=425, 1000) BY CR(VI) IN A HIGH PERCHLORIC-ACID MEDIUM, Anales de quimica, 92(3), 1996, pp. 180-185
The oxidation of poly(propylene glycol)(PPG) (MW=425, 1000) by Cr(VI)
has been studied in a highly concentrated perchloric acid medium. The
kinetic results do not fit a first order rate equation, but they do fi
t a two-exponential rate equation, as 1-MetOH and 1-EtOH oxidations do
. These kinetic results are explained by the formation of a complex be
tween Cr(VI) and the perchloric acid, which would be a stronger oxidan
t than the chromic acid, as in the 1-MetOH and 1-EtOH oxidations, but
with ether slow steps in the reaction mechanism. The influence of the
temperature on the reaction has also been studied.
