Abstract
The oxidation of poly(propylene glycol)(PPG) (MW=425, 1000) by Cr(VI) has been studied in a highly concentrated perchloric acid medium. The kinetic results do not fit a first order rate equation, but they do fi t a two-exponential rate equation, as 1-MetOH and 1-EtOH oxidations do . These kinetic results are explained by the formation of a complex be tween Cr(VI) and the perchloric acid, which would be a stronger oxidan t than the chromic acid, as in the 1-MetOH and 1-EtOH oxidations, but with ether slow steps in the reaction mechanism. The influence of the temperature on the reaction has also been studied.
