The electrochemical behaviour of tetramethyl-pyrrolinic, -piperidinic,
indolinonic and quinolinic aminoxyls and of oxygen was studied in DMF
/H2O in order to evaluate the feasibility of an electron transfer proc
ess between aminoxyls and superoxide anion. The rate constants of thes
e reactions were calculated by applying the Marcus theory. A new mecha
nism for the reaction, which operates in competition with those alread
y reported in the literature involving an electron transfer process, i
