In the present paper, it is shown experimentally: (i) that laser-activ
e (F-2(+))H and (F-2(+))(AH) centres may be produced with significant
concentrations in CO32--doped KBr (as was already known for CO32--dope
d KCl); and (ii) that, in contradistinction to the results reported pr
eviously, large optical densities of (F-2(+))(H) and (F-2(+))(AH) cent
res can be obtained in sulphate-doped alkali halides (KCl or KBr).
