Abstract
A 13-year-old Japanese girl presented with severe anemia and renal dys function. The nephronophthisis-medullary cystic disease complex was di agnosed from the results of renal biopsy and a family study. Immunohis tochemical detection of hepatocyte growth factor in the epithelial cel ls of dilated renal tubules suggested that it may have a role in the d evelopment of the tubular cystic changes which are characteristic of t his disease.
