The effect of albendazole therapy on adult Ascaris suum was examined u
sing transmission electron microscopy, The drug induced prominent ultr
astructural changes which included the presence of necrotic dense bodi
es, myelin whorls which appeared to represent various stages of lysoso
mal formation and autolysis, disruption and erosion of the microvilli.
The effects were mainly confined to the central region of the intesti
nal epithelial cells.
