We construct a simple model for the distant (R > 40 R(E)) magnetotail
using data from the ISEE 3 magnetic field instrument. The data are div
ided into plasma sheet and lobe categories using the plasma measuremen
ts. We present the average behavior of the field in various projection
s, and show that a relatively simple mathematical model can be used to
describe the distant tail magnetic field. The model results are in go
od accordance with previously published GEOTAIL observations.
