Abstract
A new method to estimate the spatial structure of the moving magnetohy drodynamic (MHD) system is presented. We integrate the Faraday's induc tion equation, partial derivative (B) over right arrow/partial derivat ive t - rot (E) over right arrow, assuming that the system is one-dime nsional. The spatial gradient direction, along which the integration i s made, is determined by minimizing the residue of the integrated Fara day's equation against the observed magnetic field. This new method ca n be regarded as an extension of the conventional magnetic minimum var iance method. Sample data analyses using this new method for magnetota il events are also presented.
