Abstract
TLC on Sorbfil plates has been used to separate the herbicide bialapho s from by-products (other amino acids, peptides, and pigments) in the broth used for culture of Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Dipping in 0.3% ninhydrin solution was used for visualization and subsequent quantitat ion. High speed scanning densitometry and high performance liquid chro matography have been used for quantitation and the results compared. C oefficients of variation were <5.0%.
