We study the anisotropy of the spontaneous curvature induced by a memb
rane inclusion consisting of two geminated polymer-lipid molecules. Th
e anisotropy is found to be of the order of the mean spontaneous curva
ture. Such a strong anisotropy yields a significant reduction of the m
embrane bending rigidity K as well as an increase of the saddle splay
(K) over bar, which might lead to curvature instabilities.
