Rs. Sathanoori et Sm. Basha, METHIONINE CONTENT OF THE POLYPEPTIDES OF METHIONINE-RICH PROTEIN FROM PEANUT, Journal of agricultural and food chemistry, 44(8), 1996, pp. 2134-2136
The six subunits of the methionine-rich protein (MRP) from peanut seed
were separated using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis followed by
western blotting of MRP. The PVDF membrane blots containing the MRP su
bunits were acid hydrolyzed and analyzed for amino acid composition. T
he results showed that of the six MRP subunits the low molecular weigh
t (15 500) polypeptides, MRP-5 and MRP-6, contained the highest amount
s (3.8% and 4.6%, respectively) of methionine, while the methionine co
ntent of the other four subunits was between 1.7% and 1.9%.
