This paper is concerned with the social and cultural implications of c
onverging technologies. It offers answers to questions about the impli
cations for our quality of life, social justice and for politics in th
e context of post-modernity. Drawing together arguments from key comme
ntators and critics from within and beyond cyberspace it identifies po
ssibilities and potential dangers. The purpose of the paper is to assi
st educators to move beyond current instrumental perspectives.
