Abstract
A 1.3 mu m Raman fibre amplifier pumped by a stable and low-noise CW c hromium-doped forsterite laser has been investigated for the first tim e. A lowest noise figure of 4.3 +/- 0.3dB has been obtained for a forw ard pumping scheme with a fibre grating returning residual pump into t he fibre.
