Abstract
The calculation of power penalty owing to interferometric noise arisin g from a single incoherent interferer is performed using its probabili ty distribution function. It is shown that good agreement between theo ry and experimental results exists. It is then confirmed that for 16 o r more interferers a Gaussian approximation to interferometric noise i s valid.
