Gc. Wilson et al., SBS AND MPI SUPPRESSION IN ANALOG SYSTEMS WITH INTEGRATED ELECTROABSORPTION MODULATOR DFB LASER TRANSMITTERS, Electronics Letters, 32(16), 1996, pp. 1502-1504
The performance of analogue CATV systems using narrow linewidth source
s and low-chirp modulation is limited by low power-thresholds for stim
ulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and excess noise from multipath inte
rference (MPI). Using a low-chirp linearised integrated DFB laser/elec
troabsorption modulator as a transmitter, the authors have increased t
he SBS threshold by 5dB to +13.6dBm fibre launch power and suppressed
MPI by dithering the laser bias current at 1.7GHz.
