Abstract
The respiratory burst reaction has been studied in monocytes from men and women of different age. Phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) was used t o stimulate NADPH oxidase. Superoxide anion production was found to be dependent on age and sex (ir decreased 45% in men and 70% in women du ring aging).
