Abstract
A systematic theoretical analysis of the effect of imperfect fiber end face cleaves on the performance of extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometr ic (EFPI) optical fiber sensors is presented. This analysis allows the prediction of the dynamic range of a sensor with greater confidence, and gives the tolerances of the mechanical instrument required to prep are the fiber endfaces. Good correlation with preliminary experimental results is also shown. (C) 1996 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentat ion Engineers.
