Planar optical waveguides have been formed in Z-cut KTP materials by H
e+ ion implantation, Guided modes's spectra and refractive index profi
les n(x), n(xy), n(y) and n(z) are determined from dark m-lines spectr
oscopy and by using an IWKB method. The coupling efficiency and light
confinement are better with TM (n(z)) modes than TE ones. This could b
e explained by the cristallographic axes orientation with respect to t
he propagation direction. The anisotropy investigation of the waveguid
e will end this work.
