G. Matt et al., A REFLECTION-DOMINATED X-RAY-SPECTRUM DISCOVERED BY ASCA IN THE CIRCINUS GALAXY, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 281(4), 1996, pp. 69-73
We report the first pointed X-ray observation, made by ASCA, of the ne
arby Seyfert 2 galaxy in Circinus. The spectrum consists of a very pro
minent (EW similar to 2 keV) fluorescent 6.4-keV iron line, a very fla
t continuum (photon spectral index less than 1) and other lines, inclu
ding one at similar to 7 keV that is probably due, at least in part, t
o iron K beta fluorescent emission. The spectrum is consistent with Co
mpton scattering and fluorescent emission from cold matter illuminated
by an obscured active nucleus.
