The objective of this research is to use an analytical and experimenta
l approach to develop new trends of cutting tool geometry with negativ
e Side Cutting Edge Angle (SCEA). The first task of this research is t
o conduct experimental tests for different SCEAs, cutting speeds, feed
rates and depths of cut. This is accomplished as follows. One set of
these experimental results will be used as a feedback to develop new e
mpirical formulae required to predict cutting forces and other machini
ng parameters. A second set of experimental tests will be conducted in
this study to ensure the validity of the empirical relationships asso
ciated with the mathematical model. The second task is to develop a ma
thematical model to predict cutting forces for the three dimensional o
blique cutting operation. New cutting tools will be proposed by using
the results of the expanded mathematical model.
