Stationary-phase cells of Chenopodium rubrum were treated with t-zeati
n riboside for 2 h, and the pattern of gene expression in both treated
and non-treated cells was examined by differential display of mRNA. B
ased on this screen, we isolated a cDNA clone whose corresponding mRNA
level increased upon cytokinin treatment. Northern blot analysis conf
irmed that expression of this mRNA was induced by t-zeatin riboside. T
he amino acid sequence deduced from the partial cDNA showed a high lev
el of similarity to the corresponding amino acid sequence of the old y
ellow enzyme-NADPH dehydrogenases of fungi.
