J. Castellvi et al., OPTIONS IN THE SURGICAL-TREATMENT OF CAVE RNOUS HEMANGIOMA OF THE RECTUM, Revista espanola de enfermedades digestivas, 88(8), 1996, pp. 566-568
Cavernous haemangioma of the rectum is an unusual hamartomatous malfor
mation, Patients usually present with painless massive rectal bleeding
that generally begins at an early age and frequently surgery is neces
sary. To avoid abdominoperineal resection of the rectum in these patie
nts, a procedure of coloanal steeve anastomosis, that includes a large
rectal mucosectomy, has been described. However, in our opinion, if a
ffectation of other pelvic organs can been excluded by MRI, it is easi
er to do a conservative proctectomy with coloanal anastomosis. We pres
ent a case in a seventeen years old patient.
