The almost-single-phase ceramic c-YBa2Cu3-x(Nb-x)O-y (x = 0.05-0.20) w
ith cubic symmetry has been synthesized by thermolysis of an ammonium
nitrate melt containing Y, Ba, Cu and Nb components. XRD patterns, the
rmogravimetric curves, far-infrared reflection spectra, and the temper
ature dependence of resistivity have been studied in the samples c-YBa
2Cu2.86(Nb-0.14)(y) and YBa4Cu2.86(Nb-0.14)O-y prepared by this method
. On this basis, the conclusion is made that c-YBa2Cu3-x(Nb-x)O-y is t
he well known cubic phase YBa4Cu3Oy containing about 50% Ba vacancies
and with the same lattice parameter a = 8.11 Angstrom.
