The Field Induced Spin Density Waves (FISDWs) found in organic conduct
ors represent a unique series of transitions which meld the one-dimens
ional physics of the Peierls instability with the two-dimensional phys
ics of the Quantum Hall Effect. This paper presents a pedagogical intr
oduction to the FISDW's in the Bechgaard salts, along with recent expe
rimental results on related high magnetic field phenomena.
