The kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of CHClFO2 radicals with NO
were studied by time-resolved mass spectrometric monitoring of the mo
lecular ions of NO2 and NO. The rate constant was determined to be (1.
31 +/- 0.20) x 10(-11) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) at (26 +/- 1)degrees C
, and was found to be independent of pressure over the range 6-25 Torr
. The CHClFO radicals formed in this reaction were found to dissociate
by unimolecular C-C1 bond scission. The unimolecular rate coefficient
for Cl atom loss was estimated to be greater than 3 x 10(3) s(-1) at
(26 +/- 1)degrees C.
